HISTORY
Founded in 1966, the non-profit Metropolitan Detroit Flower Growers Association began when metropolitan Detroit flower growers
sought a solution to high delivery costs for shipping and selling the majority of their product outside of Detroit. Two hundred growers
from throughout the metropolitan area united to develop and promote a one day event that would increase public awareness of the
great local availability of fresh, homegrown bedding flowers. That first event grew into Flower Day, which has become the first day of
spring for many gardening enthusiasts.
With 200 members, the non-profit Metropolitan Detroit Flower Growers Association (MDFGA) is the largest growers’ organization in
the United States and Canada. The organization has continued its commitment to selling more product closer to home by presenting
Flower Day annually for nearly four decades.
Today, Flower Day has evolved into over 125,000 garden enthusiasts gathering at Eastern Market to fulfill there dreams to create an
inspiring, relaxing outdoor living entertainment space away from noise and distractions of everyday living.
15 acres display and sale of flowers and gardening items. Products will include annuals, perennials, tropical flowers, trees and
shrubs, bedding plants, vegetables, gardening pots and other gardening needs.
